I am trying to get my own experimental code (“texsyn”) running again. To make it more complicated I chose this moment to switch from bash to zsh. “zsh: killed” - problem in shell, or my own Xcode build? I have recently moved from a 2014 laptop running Big Sur to a 2021 M1 running Monterey. To my knowledge, everything is still working fine with terminal except for the history part. Note: I am somewhat new to terminal and its files, so I may have accidentally deleted, moved, or modified files/folders that aren't supposed to be modified. Even just some resources that might help me find my way would be fantastic! Thank you so much in advanced! If anyone can help me get Terminal (zsh shell) to show history from past sessions, I would really appreciate it. I've done a reset and a hard reset from Terminal>Shell.I have another file at ~/.zshrc.bak with a previous config that didn't work None of those websites fixed the problem, so as of right now that file is empty. Many websites have given me different bits of text to put into ~/.zshrc.I don't think it's related, but I'm also not sure what it's doing, and I don't know if it maybe interfering somehow In ~/.zprofile I have the following line commented out. ![]() There is a file (~/.zsh_history) that has all the saved commands from before today or from sessions where I ran the logout command. When I close a session, the commands from it are saved as a.When I run $HISTFILE I get ~/.zsh_sessions/.historynew Before today Terminal history was working as described in the expected behavior. When looking for this problem on Reddit, some users complained about this same issue in Ventura 13.3 (My version). The only way to see commands from past sessions is to use the logout Commands from previous sessions do not appear in the history. The issue: when I am in a session, I can recall commands from that session only. I should also be able to close the terminal app, re-open it to a fresh shell and be able to recall commands from previous sessions. Then at a later time I can use the up and down arrow keys to scroll thorough the history of commands I've ran. The expected behavior is: When I enter a command in terminal and press enter, the command I wrote out is ran and a copy of the text of it is saved somewhere. I spent a while playing around with different pieces of the zsh files and managed to fix this issue, but in doing so I think I accidentally disabled something that allows me to recall the terminals history from past sessions. So recently I've been experimenting with the terminal more, but I accidentally installed something which made the terminal really slow. ![]()
