![]() ![]() The BOOX Note Air3 C carries this tradition with a minimalist yet elegant appearance that attempts to resemble the appearance of a thin book. While these devices started out as simple yet uninspiring small slabs of plastic, the current generation can stand with their heads held up high, proudly displaying their more elegant designs. The new Onyx BOOX Note Air3 C promises the middle ground between these two extremes, so we give it a good test to see if it really offers a new experience or is just a rehash of a recent product.Īlthough BOOX is probably better known for blurring the lines between e-readers and tablets, it can also be credited with changing the face of e-readers for the better. Fortunately, there’s quite a wide range of options for those who want different things from an e-reader, ranging from the most basic to the most powerful, but that also makes it harder to choose the right one for your needs. While this empowers e-readers to be able to do more things, there’s also the risk of going overboard with features that may burden the user, both literally as well as figuratively. In fact, except for the display and customized home screen, these devices are pretty much Android tablets using E Ink panels instead of LCDs or OLEDs. The current generation of e-book readers has torn down the walls separating it from typical Android tablets. ![]() EDITOR'S QUOTE: With a crips color E Ink display and a more affordable price tag, the BOOX Note Air3 C delivers the essential modern e-reader experience without unnecessary cruft. ![]()

This was how big each triangle was ot be in degrees. I also divided 360 by 12, which gave me 30. So for my second color wheel, I used the looser technique with much better results. So I completed the rest of the color wheel using the more loose technique.Īs you can see, there is a very notable difference between the purple, red, green and yellow compared to the rest of the colors. Zamula advised me halfway through my color wheel to loosen my grip when drawing the color wheel, and this proved to make the color mixing a more successful process. ![]() I tried to create my color wheel by applying a lot of pressure to the colored pencils I was using, and this caused the colors to become rather distorted. I took a container to make the circle, and then I just blindly drew 6 intersecting line through it to make twelve non-even triangles. The first color wheel I made did not really work very well. Afterwards, I would create the rest of the colors by mixing two of the three colors I mentioned above. In order to make my color wheel, I decided to use only three color pencils a red, a yellow and a blue. It was invented by Sir Isaac Newton way back in 1666, and since then, many artists and scientists have created their own versions of the color wheel, which have caused many debates, but in truth, any color wheel that has a logically arranged sequence of hues is valid. The color wheel is essentially a circle of color based on red, yellow and blue. ![]() This helped me keep in mind that there is not one single color wheel all artists use, and this means that there is not necessarily one ‘correct’ color wheel, there are many. ![]() But an overall idea I got from the research was that in reality, any color circle or color wheel which presents a logically arranged sequence of pure hues is valid. Afterwards, I delved into some more websites and I Straight off the bat, I found out that there are 3 important factors of color theory, and they were the color wheel, color harmony, and the context of how colors are used, or in other words, colors in relation to each other. The first piece of advice I found was that Color theories create a logical structure for color. I began to research and I started to find out more about color theory, something which I had no idea about previously. Last class, we finished our group project and we began a new unit, on color theory. ![]() ![]() Note3: All enchantments marked with "(***)" states that the enchantment haven't been tested yet in the latest beta. Drilling for a sample is the last new activity for NASA's Mars Science Laboratory Project, which is using the car-size Curiosity rover to investigate whether an area within Mars' Gale Crater has ever offered an environment favorable for life. The rock Curiosity drilled is called "John Klein" in memory of a Mars Science Laboratory deputy project manager who died in 2011. These instruments then will begin the much-anticipated detailed analysis. ![]() Small portions of the sieved sample will fall through ports on the rover deck into the Chemistry and Mineralogy (CheMin) instrument and the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument. "To get to the point of making this hole in a rock on Mars, we made eight drills and bored more than 1,200 holes in 20 types of rock on Earth." Inside the sample-handling device, the powder will be vibrated once or twice over a sieve that screens out any particles larger than six-thousandths of an inch (150 microns) across. "Then we'll use the arm to transfer the powder out of the drill into the scoop, which will be our first chance to see the acquired sample." "Building a tool to interact forcefully with unpredictable rocks on Mars required an ambitious development and testing program," said JPL's Louise Jandura, chief engineer for Curiosity's sample system. "We'll take the powder we acquired and swish it around to scrub the internal surfaces of the drill bit assembly," said JPL's Scott McCloskey, drill systems engineer. Before the rock powder is analyzed, some will be used to scour traces of material that may have been deposited onto the hardware while the rover was still on Earth, despite thorough cleaning before launch. The bit assembly has chambers to hold the powder until it can be transferred to the sample-handling mechanisms of the rover's Collection and Handling for In-Situ Martian Rock Analysis (CHIMRA) device. Rock powder generated during drilling travels up flutes on the bit. "We commanded the first full-depth drilling, and we believe we have collected sufficient material from the rock to meet our objectives of hardware cleaning and sample drop-off," said Avi Okon, drill cognizant engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "This is the biggest milestone accomplishment for the Curiosity team since the sky-crane landing last August, another proud day for America."įor the next several days, ground controllers will command the rover's arm to carry out a series of steps to process the sample, ultimately delivering portions to the instruments inside. "The most advanced planetary robot ever designed is now a fully operating analytical laboratory on Mars," said John Grunsfeld, NASA associate administrator for the agency's Science Mission Directorate. In pursuit of that evidence, the rover will use its laboratory instruments to analyze rock powder collected by the drill. ![]() The rock is believed to hold evidence about long-gone wet environments. The fresh hole, about 0.63 inch (1.6 centimeters) wide and 2.5 inches (6.4 centimeters) deep in a patch of fine-grained sedimentary bedrock, can be seen in images and other data Curiosity beamed to Earth Saturday. This is the first time any robot has drilled into a rock to collect a sample on Mars. NASA's Curiosity rover has, for the first time, used a drill carried at the end of its robotic arm to bore into a flat, veiny rock on Mars and collect a sample from its interior. ![]() ![]() She’s a child and so, we are to infer, doesn’t really understand why her actions are wrong. The fact that in each case, it’s the hapless Baby Bear whose porridge is eaten, whose chair is broken, and whose bedsheets will have to go straight in the wash, aligns the child Goldilocks with the child of the ursine family unit. But then in most versions of the tale, Goldilocks gets a quick fright and nothing more: she undergoes no punishment or real peril, and there’s no sign at the end of the tale that she’s learned her lesson. But it’s hard to say what the moral is, exactly.Īt best, it’s implicit in the story: don’t go about nicking other people’s food or using their stuff, because if you take your eye off the ball they may find you out – and they might be big and fearsome and present a real danger to you. How should we analyse this curious little tale? It’s obviously great fun in that it contains adventure, a woodland jaunt gone wrong, and talking animals – a formula for success, if ever there was one, when it comes to children’s fairy tales. Several versions of the fairy tale published in the mid-nineteenth century altered the three bears into a family trio, yet somewhat confusingly, in the accompanying illustrations, the bears are all male and all the same size. The evolution of the three bears from Southey’s all-male trio into a family unit was not without its bumps and false starts, either. In George MacDonald’s ‘The Golden Key’ (1867), she appears as Silverhair.Īmazingly, given the vintage of the fairy tale, it wasn’t until 1904 that she became Goldilocks, when an English writer named Flora Annie Steel took the name from older (and very different) fairy tales and applied it to the youthful intruder in the Three Bears tale. ![]() In another, Golden-Hair, and yet another, Little Golden-Hair. ![]() Even after she had morphed from an old woman into a young girl, her name – and her hair colour – showed all the signs of fidgetiness evinced by the character herself in the story.
